Licensing conditions
The new XML edition of the BNC is distributed with the BNC licence. The terms and conditions are the same as those for previous editions. This means you must agree to the licence conditions before you can access the corpus.
If you intend to provide access to the corpus more widely, for example by setting up a public server, you should contact us first. In particular, please note that if your server makes available to the general public anything more than brief citations (single sentences, for example) from the corpus, then you risk infringing the copyright of the original IPR holders and may be liable for legal action. The licence explicitly prohibits such use. This restriction does not however apply if you are making the corpus available via a private network such as a teaching room where all users are required to log in, and to which the licensee can control access.
